Services & Programs

At the Palacios Community Hub, we serve as your one-stop resource for life’s challenges. Sometimes that means help with a 16-page benefits application, understanding new health insurance forms, getting a bill of sale notarized, or making copies of an important will. Other times, it’s about learning new skills, finding a job, or getting connected to health and wellness services.
In a rural town like ours, many of these services weren’t available—or affordable—before the Hub. Today, we’re proud to offer support in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese, and to help protect seniors by identifying scams in mail or messages. We don’t just react to needs; we listen and keep building new programs and partnerships so the community always has access to the help it needs.

Literacy Support for Children

  • Parents as Teachers (PAT): A nationally recognized program that helps parents become their child’s first teacher. Educators meet with families twice a month to share age-appropriate activities, set goals, and provide overall family support. Group meetings also offer connection, learning, and a meal.
  • Child Literacy Programs: Early literacy skills are key to school and life success. With many Texas children struggling, our programs focus on reading, writing, and technology to break cycles of poverty.
  • Books and Beyond: A weekly after-school program with storytelling, STEAM activities, and snacks. Offered at three locations to help kids who lack transportation.
  • Lit Camp (Summer): A K–3rd grade summer program to prevent “summer slide.” Kids read Scholastic books, enjoy activities, and take books home to share.

Workforce Preparation

  • SER Jobs: Paid internships for young adults ages 16–24, plus opportunities for those 25 and older. The Hub is also a SEAL site for youth with disabilities, offering workforce training and mentorship.
  • Workforce Solutions Counselor: Available every Tuesday morning at the Hub to connect residents with job opportunities.
  • Job Search Help: Support with resumes, cover letters, computer skills, and job applications during all open hours.
  • Job Fair: An annual event connecting high school seniors and community members with local employers, supported by regional chambers of commerce and business groups.

Adult Education

  • English as a Second Language (ESL): Morning and evening classes offered four days a week, including preparation for citizenship tests and interviews. Available for Spanish and Vietnamese speakers.
  • GED Classes: Support for adults working to complete their high school equivalency.
  • Financial Literacy: Classes and one-on-one support to help families budget, save, and make better financial decisions.
  • Agriculture Lecture Series: Monthly guest speakers share expertise to support local farmers, entrepreneurs, and anyone interested in agriculture.

Health Services

  • Wesley Nurse: On-site once a week, offering a holistic approach to health—mind, body, and spirit—plus free referrals to behavioral health counselors.
  • Immunizations: Flu, COVID, and childhood shots provided by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services as needed.
  • Prevent Blindness: Monthly vision screenings with vouchers for free eye exams and glasses for those who qualify.
  • Early Childhood Intervention (ECI): Weekly sessions for families of children with developmental delays, plus outreach and resources for children under age 3.
  • Health Expo: An annual back-to-school event with free health screenings, physicals, haircuts, and more.
